  1. I am working on your O’Sullivan line in the many US census indexes which I am able to research on-line. Please send the birthdates of Patrick and wife Elizabeth Anne Harvey.

  2. Rebecca Elizabeth O’Sullivan was born 3 Mar 1873, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.
Maria Amelia O’Sullivan was born 26 December 1874, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.

Elizabeth Anne Harvey was born 1850, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland
Patrick O’Sullivan was born about 1850, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.

  3. Among the many indexes at my disposal are the Cork County Civil Registration Indexes which come up automatically when searching an individual born in Ireland and in the US census records for each state indexed. The daughters come up in that register, but the parents do not. Is 1850 an estimate for the parents? Still searching and going through various ways to find your family.

  4. The daughters of Elizabeth Anne Harvey and Patrick O’Sullivan are registered as they are born after 1864. Before then all civil registration records were destroyed in Dublin in the civil war.

Elizabeth Anne Harvey, is the daughter of Maria Morris and John Joseph Harvey. The parents were married 29 Jan 1840, in the St Michaels Church of Ireland, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.

They had 8 children. Elizabeth Anne Harvey is the 5th child as far I have researched; all their children’s birth are estimated.

  5. 1900 census is a vital one. So much information there, even to date of arrival. If Patrick and Elizabeth came with their two daughters to the US in about 1876, in 1900 they would be 70 by then, maybe passed on, and the girls out of the nest and married. Unfortunately the 1880 censuses indexes, the first census they would be in, list indivduals, not families. But the Film #’s are given to search for other family members. Those #’s can be obtained when you get over here. You mentioned 8 children born to them. Send their names and B/D just in case some of them came over to the US later to be with the parents.

  6. Sorry about my goof in the parents ages. They probably had other children in the States in between 1875-76 and 1900. There are so many ways to search these indexes. For example I could pull up all the Patrick O’Sullivans and Sullivans or just the surname. I have found a Rebecca Sullivan b. 1873 Ireland in the 1920 Census of Hudson, New Jersey. She was listed age 47 and single. Film # 1821046 I think some dropped the “O” as time went by. By the way were they both Catholics? I will press forward with steadfast faith in the indexes to help me find your family.

  7. Elizabeth Anne Harvey as well as the rest of her 7 siblings were raised in the Catholic Church, Blackrock with their father John Joseph Harvey.

Every Sunday the whole family would walk together down Blackrock road to church. When they came to the Catholic Church, John would take his children with him.

Maria the mum would walk alone to her church, St Michaels Church of Ireland, some distance further.

Rebecca Sullivan appears to be our ancestor, shame she did not marry and have a posterity. Anymore details?
Safe to say they are Catholic. Good work.

  8. Good News!! Patrick J. and Marie A. and Rebecca E. (although the enumerator put down “C” I guess he didn’t hear too well) are in the 1900 Census of Jersey City (Seventh Precinct), Hudson County, New Jersey!! Sadly, missing is Elizabeth Anne. Patrick is listed as a widower. I have copied it off for you a full page of the census plus a copy of selected portion of their entries alone. Marie A. or your Maria is newly married to the head of the household, Francis H. Martin, b. May 1870, Pennsylvania. Her B/month and yr. are correct, as are Rebecca’s. Patrick J. (probably Joseph, the usual combination) b. Mar. 1850. Now here is the interesting part. Patrick came to the US in 1880 (residing in the US 19 years and the girls in 1894 residing 6 years. Patrick is by profession a clerk and broker, his son-in-law is a watch maker. They had in the household with them a womanservant. So they must have been fairly well off to afford her. She was also listed as a nurse. I will follow-up on the Martin family from this point on for children born after 1900. Hopefully they will be in the 1920 census. Hang on to the other submission I sent on a Rebecca. It may be her. What a great break through! God is good!! Jen

  9. Followup on Martin finding, no absolute certainty however. I am trying this which I am hoping will send you a copy of the record.

  10. I think the best thing for you to do is put out a feeler for descendants of Francis H. Martin b. 1870, Pennsylvania and his wife Marie or Maria Amelia O’Sullivan, born 1874 in Ireland. We aren’t sure if the above information applies to our man. There are others.

    Jen
