Hello World: I have been searching for William Morris for many, many years. You can squirm, with a name like that there are 100’s of them!!
I wish the true William would step up and be counted, I am growing tired, physically.
My search has been numerous trips to Ireland, searching parish records of Catholic and Protestant faiths in Cork and Dublin. And trapsing accross the world to Salt Lake City to the Family History Library to search there.I have spent large amounts of euro and sterling to employ researchers in Ireland and England.I have searched all family history search engines, even with the records of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
What have I gained, nothing. I dont know where he was born, or what was his nationality.
A week ago, now in my old age I was encouraged to “Blog.”
I submit my William Morris to you all.
Fact 1: William had parents and maybe a sister and brother.
Fact2: He was born 1782, of somewhere.
Fact3:He died 2 October 1836, age 54, in Blackrock, Cork. Ireland. He was a coastguard as many would prefer. His death certificate was endorsed ‘Boatman, died in active service.’
Fact4: William had a wife Jemima (surname unknown) born in 1780, of somewhere.Died, 4 July 1840, in Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.
Fact5: William and Jemima had 5 children, Ann, Elizabeth, William, Maria and Jemima.
You see William Morris has an end with no complete beginning.
Hi ,
I’ve contacted my nephew in Ireland & he has a friend surnamed Morris. They are doing an exercise to try & crack this search .
As William Morris died aged 54 in active service I’m wondering if he was involved in a rescue or shipwreck off Southern Ireland.
I looked-up the Coastguards & I came up with references to RLI (Royal Lifeboat Institution ) This was under Admiralty control. It may have been involved with Customs & Excise under British jurisdiction about that era. (1800’s)
Be of good heart….William will eventually reveal his origins.
Cheers,
Dan
Hello Dan,
Truly a great effort, between you and your nephew in Ireland.
It could have been a day when the weather, the season, the seas were at its worst. He may have been washed over board and drowned.
Thank you for your support and many, many thanks to your nephew and his friend named Morris, would you believe!!
Cheers
Fern.

Hi Fern,
William Morris born b. 18 Mar 1782 couldn’t have been ditto who married
1774 (unless that was his father). But Registered Cheshire Parish & Astbury would be in order. Born March, registered September very much on the cards.
Do you know if Astbury, Haslington & Idminston are near enough to be “local” towns or villages in those days ?
I must contact my nephew again…his house got flooded & they had to cancel their trip to New Zealand.
Keep up hope & here’s wishing you a happy Waitangi day celebration.
Cheers,
Dan & Jeanne
